MK7 MPG

Post by matthewpole »

hi guys, i am new on this forum so i apologize in advance if this subject has already been brought up and discussed. i have recently bought a mk7 fiesta 1.6 tdci titanium purposely for the recommendations of fuel consumption. The car is currently averaging around 45 - 47 MPG including a small amount of motorway driving. i do not drive very heavily footed as i am more interested in get more miles out of my car for the value. can some one kindly shed some light on this topic for me stating whether i should be impressed with the figures or not.

thanks in advance.

You should not be impressed! I have an 03/2012 1.6TDCi titanium econetic and have covered 61000m in it in 3-years and over the whole 61000m I have averaged 70.52mpg. Driving style, maintenance and tyres make a difference:
- keep revs low typically below 2000rpm
- stay just below 60mph on motorways - ~50mph is even better and you'll get 80+mpg (my best is 88mpg over 379m but I've achieved 77mog over 550miles on a couple of occasions)
- anticipate the road ahead to avoid use of brakes
- low rolling resistance tyres help - mine came on Michelin 175/65 14 Energy Savers but I've currently got Dunlop winter tyres on and have only been achieving 60-65mpg over last 10000m
- keep car serviced (make sure brakes are not binding)

Is this worked out on the dash computer or a pump to pump calculation?

I get about 57.4mpg to mine, but I do have a roof rack on. I got just over 68 mpg on a long run back from Devon

Hi Matthew,

I have the same car as yours and I was getting similar figures, however 18 months ago I fitted it with a TDI tuning box and was getting 52-54mpg and 40% more torque, strangely enough I'm selling that tuning box on E-bay as I've upgraded the tuning box, you've got till Saturday evening to bid, so good luck - Galaxy96
