Onboard USB Issue

Hoping someone can help me.



I recently bought my first car, a Fiesta 2013 1.6 Zetec Powershift and with it having no bluetooth it seemed my best option to use my ipod nano with the car was the onboard usb, when I plug the ipod in with just the normal apple cable, it comes up its charging fine 100% of the time, but the car only detects it and lets me play music etc about 20% of the time I'd say? When it does detect it the music appears on the head unit etc fine.
