2008 Mk7 Fiesta Push Button Start - Will not start

Post by simondo »

Today the car has decided not to start. It has push button start. There is no ignition when start button pressed and therefore engine does not turn over.

I have electrical power, stereo, lights etc and car can be remotely locked and unlocked. Spare key does not work either. Passenger and engine bay ignition fuses ok. Battery a couple of months old. Not checked voltage yet but I would stick my neck out and say it's ok.

I then tried the procedure in the manual about holding keyfob next to where ignition barrel would be but still no joy.

I then disconnected battery for 10 mins then reconnected. Jumped in car and got message 'Key not detected' and still no start.

Added bonus is that steering wheel is locked and obviously can't be unlocked in this state.

I searched and found this:

Could this be a similar issue?

Any suggestions would be appreciated

If my vehicle suddenly started doing this I'd start by checking that the switch on the clutch pedal was working correctly
