About to make the change

Hi all,

Found this forum whilst looking for info on the Fiesta.

I currently own 58' plate Civic Type-R, however with a 45 mile commute every day combined with fuel costs, £260 a year tax, servicing and insurance it's starting to cost a fortune. Combine this with having a 1 year old daughter at home and me and the wife have decided its time for something a little more economical.

I've looked at a lot of cars over the last month or so, Mitos, Meganes, DS3s, A1s, and just couldn't make my mind up. Whilst searching I hadn't considered a new Fiesta until I came across a great review for it. Upon doing some more research every review I read seemed to be full of praise for its great handling, looks and comfort so I went to see one.

I decided on a Zetec S 1.6 diesel, seemed to be the right balance of fun and economy. I found the car to be great fun to drive, if not massively fast, although we all know it's more fun to drive a slower car fast than a fast car slow. Don't get me wrong I live my Civic but I just wasn't having fun in it anymore as I was constantly looking at the trip computer and worrying about MPG as opposed to driving it how it's meant to be driven.

So I've put a deposit down on a 61 plate Fiesta with about 1k miles on it, it's got Bluetooth and city pack so it's got everything I want. Going to see it next week and all being well will be saying goodbye to the Type-R and hello to the Fiesta.

So to the guys with the 1.6 TDCI's, how do you find them? Any issues I should know about before taking the plunge.

I have the ZS TDCI with the Bluetooth and city pack.
I had the mk6 ZS petrol which I found very fun, I don't find the derv as fun but I get 45+mpg so I can't complain, and it's stunning to look at. The bluetooth is super useful and so is the parking sensors although I wish they'd over ride the radio when you get close to something like they do in my father in laws 3008.
£20 a year tax is amazing, it's costing me £54 to fill to the brim so not too bad and you can get 430 miles from that. But I drove very sensible and got 60.3mpg from it for a few days last week, and according to my trip I could have done 523 miles from it if I carried on like that.

Thanks for the reply. My commute is 20 miles on a single lane road with very few overtaking spots so 9 times out of 10 I'm stuck behind someone doing 50 mph. Driving like this I would be hoping to get close to 60mpg in the car?

On another note anyone ever used Motorpoint before? That's where I'm looking at getting the car from but have read a few stories about the cars not being from the UK. How can you tell if it's a UK spec Fiesta and are there any differences between UK and Euro anyway?

That's where I got mine from, they'll tell you anything to make the sale I found this out after using them, the cars are normally from jersey (mine, my missus, my mates all from jersey). I'd question them on where it came from.

When I had my 60.3mpg I was changing at 1500 revs and rarely when above 55mph for about 25ish miles so on your commute I'd say that you should get the same.

Are there any issues you've had having the car from Jersey? Warranty, insurance, or anything else?

Ford went a bit funny when I had a problem with my turbo saying they won't pay to replace the turbo if I need it to replaced when it burnt out because it was from jersey, But I kept on then they changed their story and said its because its an ex fleet car, I kicked up enough fuss and they agreed that any work that needs to be done they'd honor the warranty. But this will be the last ford I own the warranty and customer service isn't work the toss.
