Petrol or Diesel

Hi

Going to be getting a Mk 7Zetec S within the next few weeks but I dunno whether to get petrol or diesel.

I am going to be doing some minor (for now) performance upgrades and I am looking for some advice on what engine is better to tune.

Also, from an economical point of view, is it worth paying the extra £1000 and service costs for a diesel or would it better to just go for a petrol?

I do about 200 miles per week

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Just over 10k a year? Diesel's probably not worth it in my opinion - certainly from a financial point of view. Doing 10k also would suggest a lack of regular strong long runs, which will result in the DPF constantly regenerating, reducing any MPG benefits, and ultimately knackering out the (expensive) filter itself. I'd just go for the smoother petrol, unless you have a particular want for the diesel's torquey driving characteristics
