Gear Stick

Hi, I have a 1400 Zetec on a 58 plate, when i change gear the gear stick makes an annoying squeak, clearly i need to put a spot of grease on it, does anyone know how to get into the centre console to access the lower part of the gear stick. Many thanks

You need to remove the gear stick surround which the gaitor is connected too

This is secured with 6 plastic clips, 3 each side

You need to pull this up firmly, ensure you start at the end closest to the front of the car so that you don't bend the front 2 clips

To make it easier, you can also take the panels off either side down in the footwell. Undo the silly plastic screw up by the pedals, then the rest is secured on clips, pull off straight, again to ensure you don't bend clips
