Battery problem on 2008 1.25 fiesta

Post by bwf1975 »

Hi all, i wonder if anyone can give me advice on a fault that i have on my car.
I got back today from a short run to find that 5 mins later the battery was flat, jump started the car and drove it 25 miles to work with no warning lights at all apart from odd abs/steering light briefly flicker twice.
Upon getting to work tried to restart vehicle and flat battery.
I'm confused as there was no charging warning light, is this likely to be just an alternator fault, or as a mate said they have some smart charging function which he had go wrong while back.
Any advice or guidance would most appreciated.

Brett

My guess is alternator OK (sounds like it was supplying all your electrical needs whilst you were driving) but that your battery is finished (not accepting charge). To confirm you probably need a voltmeter - if you are seeing 13.5/13.8v at the battery terminals when the engine is running then alternator OK but battery has failed.

Yep was just the battery, after getting new battery tested alternator and was just under 14.5v and 14.3 under load with all electricals on.
Tested for parasitic drain by friend and was drawing 80 milli-amps.
Suprised how suddenly battery died and would not recharge despite healthy charging system.
