After reading a few different forums it seems as though it is possible to programme a 3 button flip to my fiesta, took the plunge and ordered a blank from ebay for a mere £8 and will let you know how it goes once it arrives

I tried to do this yesterday and made a right mess of it. I called Ford to ask for a price of the new key. 1 dealer said 120 EU (plus 85 to program and 20 to cut) and the other said that my car wouldnt allow for the flipkey conversion. So I decided to buy an aftermarket one ... Please dont as they are crap ! I have googled this till my fingers bled to no avail. I bought the aftermarket key for 22 Eu and recieved it after 2 days. The buttons where stone hard and my fingers hurt after a while of pressing them. However I decided to proceed with the conversion. Unloaded my poor key and placed all the bits in my new flipkey. The last and not least was the transponder. I pried out the plastic surrounding it and with a gentle pull out it came .. only it was in 2 bits. I snapped it as Ford glued the bottom bit to the key. Misery ! It would seem that I was doomed to buy a new key anyway.
SO I called around and a company said they could provide me with a new transponder. I drove there yesterday and because I didnt have the 4 code for the chip (this only availabe at Ford) I got a older version chip in a small glass tube(got the new aftermarket key also cut) total cost 80eu ..
Got home and placed the chip and key blade in the aftermarket flipkey and it worked fine other than making my fingers bleed pressing the buttons. I decided then to place everything back in my old key .. but ... the new chip doesnt fit .. so I modified the key and got the tube to fit .. story over... TERRIBLE MISTAKE ....
As long as you dont have the transponder code here in the NL you cannot reprogram a transponder ceramic chip. You can however get the old glass tube version programmed with no problem at a low cost.
wounded bleeding and ashamed !!!
