Fitting wing mirror

Hi. My neighbour knocked his wing mirror today and asked me to refit it. I took it off but can't get it to sit flush. There is a horizontal hole cut into the door but on the mirror theres a metal clip and it vertical. I can't figure out how to get it goes together
I have looked on Google and there loads of information about replacing the cover and glass but can't find anything about how to do this. Closest I have come is a video about stripping the door card off too. Then it says to reattach the same way it came off so in still at a loss
Any one help with this issue please
