Hi all,
just had a thought - ive bought two LED strips quite cheap off ebay, to replace the naff boot light in my Mk7 (gonna have one each side of the boot).
Just been looking at the standard connector & i think the best way will be to cut off the existing bulb holder (leaving some cable on the end, incase i need to re-fit it at a later date) & use a connection block to connect up the new LED's.
I think i prob already know the answer to this, but tbh i dont really want to go to the hassle of disconnecting the battery (not sure if the stereo is coded, for a start) - so wondered if id fuse anything by cutting this off while battery is connected ?.......alternitavely, i thiought about doing this work while the boot is closed (im presuming its a switched live to the bulb) to avoid any fusing issues.
Dont see why you cant do it with the boot closed, or jam something in the switch to make the boot think its closed.
Realistically if you do one wire at a time, providing you dont short the live out, you shouldn't have a problem. PS, better to solder than use connector blocks.

just one more question - ive been looking & i have a fair bit of mains voltage extension cable knocking around at the moment. I was thinking, rather than buying specific auto wiring, would it be ok to use a length of the mains cable i have ?.
My theory is that, as theres only 12v going through it, it should be easily able to cope with the load. Idve thought if it were the other way around (running 240v through 12v cable, is when id have to worry about melting cables etc).
