Hi all - ok so im sitting at work & tbh am a bit bored

So (as you do) i start thinking about what ill be doing to my S1600 when xmas is all done & out the way. Number 1 on the list is install rear speakers & upgrade the fronts....while im at it, i was going to stick in some sound deadening for good measure :)

Now, ive always been into decent car stereos & have never bothered with soound deadening - mostly because it appears to cost the earth. Having a think about it & a quick search online, it seems that bitumen tape is more or less the same thing & i can get 150mm x 10m for less than £15- which is significantly cheaper than dynamat & similar....example from good old screwfix:

http://www.screwfix.com/p/flashing-tape ... -10m/25426

so, guess the question is - is sound deadening worth it & will this stuff do more or less the same job ??.....beter still, has anyone here used this ??

Hi, you need to ask your self what deading is for? And how it work.
You want to do kind of subwoofer box in your door.
To do that it need to be as hard as possible with possible no holes.
Of corse.. Car door are very difficult to dead..a lot of spaces where air/sound can go out..

The best think u should do is to buy some resin and fibre glass.(not exspensive at all if u buy in right shop)
Try to apply few coats(but do not cover the holes for removing windows (two special holes for that - allow you to unpin glass from pin-holders)) Because you will struggle a lot in future if u cover them. (fixing anythin inside of the door)
When u finish doing that.

Better is to buy cheep but good mats rader the tape (wich has nearly no hardnes in it)
For example in uk i think good choice is:
'Silent Coat'
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Silent-Coat-S ... 337ead4483

When i finish my system u can have look.

I am deading with resin+fibre(i wanted aluminium but desing of fiesta door is so crap only resin will doo the job), dynamate xtreme, GMS mats(unaviable in uk), Slinent Coat and some deading material..more like cloth thing)

Some people may say...why aluminium in the door ... i show u how it looks like:

(in midle of adding alloy)

(more alloy)

I hope that was usefull.
So avoid tape. Use tape more on finishing edges rather then use it on all surface.

Regards.

Just P.S.
I used tape in my first golf mk2 car.
Well... it did the job..only because was no deading at all in golf...just big empty holes in the door. So tape covered all that.(p.s. i used alloy betwen in golf)
But in fiesta..u have that plastic cover wich holds all your elec. winodws etc. So only way to do it is to make it stronger. And i think resin + fibre do the job.
And good mat on top and inside.

P.S.2.
I used tape covered with alloy, not the tape u are showing.
That tape is crap ;)

I used that kind of tape.
'Genuine Evo-Stik Flashing Tape'
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/flash-band-Ge ... 35c2b44b1a
Remember, tape is a bad idea..is better to go for silent coat stuff.

Flashing tape will be ok for areas that don't get hot else the glue will melt leaving a nice mess. With soundproofing you get what you pay for, basic bitumen pads from any parts shop are ok but you can't beat dynomat or brownbread for areas around the speakers or large panels. I'll be doing mine in the summer, Paul R on zsoc has done his with great results.
