Clutch Problems

Hi all, I have just had a major clutch failure on my Fiesta. It all started about a month ago when the clutch pedal started squeaking. Whilst the car was at the dealer I asked them to have a look at the squeak as it was annoying. I think they re-greased the spring mechanism area within the drivers footwell. This resulting in curing the noise for a few days, only for it to come back. I carried on driving around with the annoying squeak and put it out of my mind until I could be bothered to go back to the dealer. However, yesterday the clutch pedal decided to suck itself to the bulkhead and wouldn't let me have it back. Fortunately I was only driving slowly at the time as it resulted in the obvious de-clutch. I pulled over and turned the engine off and this allowed me to have the pedal back. I have driven it today without any problems apart from the squeak and taken it to the dealer. They say that some Fiestas suffer from a pressure loss in the clutch system resulting in this action of not returning the pedal. Mine is being repaired under warranty, but if yours is out there is a Techincal Notice from Ford. Personally I think this should be a safety recall as being de-clutched when you're not expecting it is dangerous. Anyway, if you have a clutch squeak, don't ignore or spray some grease on it, get it to Ford and tell them to replace the clutch system!

Your Vehicle is fitted with a hydraulic clutch system if the pedal is going the floor and not actually engaging the clutch, then the chances are that is a fault on the hydraulic side of the system. Either the slave cylinder or master cylinder. Also on the fiestas get them to check the master cylinder rod is connected to the pedal correctly.
