Gearbox

Hi All
I am new to the forum. I have just bought 2011 fiesta 1600 zetec s it done 23000 miles and look well looked after. That said I have noticed that the gearbox feels a bit sloppy not like stirring porridge just not very precise. The gearbox also sound quite noisy most noticeable in second gear. I have never driven this type of car before and just want to know if I have a problem or not.
