Ford earlier this year denied rumors that prepares an extreme Fiesta RS, but for customers who prefer a small sport hatchback will offer a kind of consolation – an even more powerful version of the already fantastic Fiesta ST.
Described as the most powerful production Fiesta ever, the model is powered by a reinforced version of the 1.6-liter EcoBoost engine from the regular ST model. The engine now delivers 200 PS hp and 290Nm (214 lb-ft) of torque, which a improvement of 15 PS and 50 Nm of torque over the regular unit. These figures are not final, considering that by using the overboost function, the power can be temporarily increased to 215 PS and 320Nm (236 lb-ft) for up to 15 seconds. Thanks to this extra power the hatchback accelerates from 0-100km/h (0-62 mph) in 6.7 seconds before hitting a top speed of 230km/h (143 mph). That’s a 0.2 seconds faster that the regular ST, while top speed is increased by 10km/h (6mph).
The engine is mated to a six-speed manual transmission borrowed from the standard Fiesta ST, but the company shortens the final drive ratio from 3.82 to 4.06.
Besides the added power, the ST200 features a stiffer and 15mm lower suspension, enhanced Torque Vectoring Control and 3-mode Electronic Stability Control, specially modified front steering knuckle, an adapted rear twist-beam with increased roll-stiffness and an enhanced braking system with a larger rear disc brakes. The model comes in a unique Storm Grey paint along with 7-inch machined black alloy wheels and eye-catching red brake calipers. The Fiesta ST200 also features a revised interior with partial leather Charcoal Recaro front seats and contrasting silver stitching, special seat belts with silver accents and illuminated sill plates.
The production starts in June and the first copies will be delivered to customers before the end of summer.
