Tyre sizes, can i go bigger?

Hi everyone
I drive a mk7 zetec s with the street pack. Only had it about 6 weeks from ford garage but already snapped a coil spring. That was replaced under warranty but i changed the discs and pads and found that 3 of the alloys are badly buckled... Not impressed about this!
However i have lost a tyre to a rock which i think was made worse by a big flat spot on the alloy about 4' flat. It currently has 205/40/17 and I changed the damaged one for a tyre i had spare from a previous car. This is 215/45/17. It seems to work ok and fills the arches better but.....
Question is, as this isnt a long term fix do i get another tyre the same size as the rest or can the car handle 4 larger tyres? I know it may alter the speedo reading slightly but will it make any difference to the handling etc!? I dont mind it handling better but i dont want to make it worse or even dangerous... Anyone tried this before or have any info or ideas about it?
Cheers in advance
