Boot open warning audible alarm & dash indicator

Hi All,
Has anyone on here got any idea how to sort my boot open warning (false) alarm and dash light (the cars interior light also comes on when alarm is activated).
It started giving the false alarm a few weeks ago as an occasional split second chirp / flash but now its going off regularly. The car is a 2009 UK version MK7 1.4 Style + TDCI
The boot is definately closed securely, I had a quick look last night at the lock mechanism I removed the boot plastics and removed the lock by removing the 2 X 8 mm hex head bolts the lock looks as good as new I also checked the two visible snap connectors on the wiring loom and both are spotless no sign of any water ingress anywhere. I ran out of time and light so I just reassembled everything, it seemed to have cured it but was short lived I only got about an hour of peace
I would suspect the root cause is a dodgy micro switch that is triggering this alarm but I didn't see a switch anywhere in my brief investigation, can anyone point me in the direction of such a switches location a photo would be excellent if anyone has one. I can then remove and test, clean and or replace such a beast
I've noticed in the past few days that the indicators sometimes don't flash when doubling locking the car on the first or even a second attempt using the key fob, that I imagine would be because it thinks the boot is open, after double clicking the fob a few times they do flash.
Any help or advice on rectifying this annoying problem would be greatly appreciated
