Static noise

Static noise

I'm posting this topic again just in case some members didn't see it in the Newbie section. I have a really weird static noise coming from the stereo speakers. This happens intermittently even when the car is not running. If I dunt the dashboard just above the CD slot the noise stops so think there is a problem with the stereo head unit. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.
