Mk7 wing mirror vandalised - how to reattach!

Hi,

Been using this forum for advice but never posted so here is the first one!

Unfortunately my girlfriend had her wing mirrors vandalised the other day by some mindless person! It seems that they either tried to pull them off or just smash them but only succeeded in removing the rear covers and moving there position.

Thing is I cant get the base of the wing mirror to sit flat on to the door now - there are these 3 little grey tabs which appear to have no where to go and are causing the mirror to stick out. Now I may be doing something stupid but I just cannot figure out how to seat the mirror correctly - its just these stupid grey tabs.

If anyone has any advice or manual or can even post a close up of your wing mirror on the car I might be able to figure it out.
