1.4 TDCi trottle behaviour

Post by Sunjammer »

Hi all,

Hope this isn't a stupid question :)

I have just bought a 2009 1.4 tdci (style +) and have noticed that when I ease off all pedals completely just before one would expect the car to start to shudder or struggle it picks up revs very slightly and recovers and drives away just like I have applied very gentle pressure on the accelerator pedal. Is this normal as it's my first experience of a diesel ???

It sounds normal for a diesel, just the low rev torque the engine produces compared to a petrol, i don't use the throttle in mine when i start to pull away, just feather the clutch till it moves off then drive as usual (just a habit i picked up driving a tipper on quarrys & building sites, low revs = less wheelspin & more traction!)
