Hi all - just a quick question, as ive been having some ideas about what im gonna do to improve on the really quite rubbish speaker setup in my mk7
Ive got an idea in my head, to get the middle section of the door cards wrapped gloss black & was just looking at the kinda naff looking standard speaker grills, thinking how i could improve them
.....then, i had a thought - potentially could cut out the standard grills & mount a set of nice 6x9's, once the card have been wrapped.
Most likely, id need to put some kind of strengthening behind the panel to hold them firm, thats fine - just wondered if anyone had any expereince of this, or has done something similar before - if so, how does it sound ?........i seriously dont want a "boy racer" stereo, but would like much better sound quality & less (or zero) distortion when i do turn up the volume !
ideas \ thoughts welcome

Re: 6x9 in front doors
may i ask a question? why 6x9's in the front door? why dont you just get some aftermarket 4" speakers to replace the existing ones as my guess is that this would be a much easier installation? you can get mounting brackets specific to your speaker size therefore making sure the speakers fit in place of your existing ones.
also, may i ask, are you planning to amp the speakers, as the power output of the standard head unit may not be adequate to supply the power required to run your aftermarket speakers. for example, if you are running 180 watt 4" speakers, it may actually sound worse than your standard speakers if they arent amped.
my plan personally is to install my sub in the boot with 6x9's in the parcel shelf, both running from the same 4 channel amp, then i may consider upgrading the front door speakers. had a similar setup in my old fiesta, with standard door speakers, 900w sub and 300w 6x9's and sounded fantastic

1. without amp you will not improve. (buy lowHight input conventer so u can use RCA leads)
2. To get rid off rezonans/vibration in the door use fibre glass and resin to make it stronger. Apply few coats.. 3-4 and u will be happy.
3. Use same size speekers as fiesta orginaly have. (that size is the best).
Worst thing you can do to your car...is to put 6x9 ! Is crap bro. (spend money form 6x9 to buy better sub or speekers)Ryan Middleton wrote:my plan personally is to install my sub in the boot with 6x9's in the parcel shelf, both running from the same 4 channel amp, then i may consider upgrading the front door speakers. had a similar setup in my old fiesta, with standard door speakers, 900w sub and 300w 6x9's and sounded fantastic
2cound worst thinkg to put ANY speaker to the parcel shelf is a dissaster really.
I will give you 3 reazons:
1. Only circle shape speekers can produce quality sound. Sound is bended/deformed just by a build od 6x9.
If you throw rock in a puddle it will make round circle...wave is in it? Why does not make egg shape
2. Speeker can only play nice in 'sub box', even front speekres have kind of sub box(doors) ...what kind of sub box 6x9 in parcel shelf will have ?
3. I don't know what where do you aim.
You want to have.... sound mess in the car? 10 thousend speekers(just a joke) ...Is 10x better if u focus on good fron sperate system(2way) + sub. all amped.
You wish for your sustem to be just loud..or it you wish to hear good sound?
P.S. You said u had 900w sub ? watts of what?
You can messure speekers only by RMS Watts. All other watts are just marketing thing and they do not say anything about speakres.
For example i have old school 300 rms sub 10"...and i am afraid it it will not brake windows in the car...
My criticism is ony to help u out guys.
1. So no one will ripp you of on 10000000watt speekrs But you can messure them by RMS.
2. You will not waste money on any 6x9.
3. Parcel speekers look ... boyracer'ish... Is better to invest in sub.
