Ye light needs to be removed

Open Boot
Reach to roughly behind the rear light on whichever side at the top of the carpeted area
You'll find a long plastic plastic wing nut (I suppose that's what you'd call it)
Unscrew this (quite a long thread)
DON'T DROP IT
Then use a correct size torx driver to unscrew the 2 torn screws on the face of the light
Then it pops out
Unplug loom
Unclip bulb holder from light
Change appropriate bulbs
Replace

I had to register and post just to say thanks! I had a brake light need replacing and I'd tried following the user handbook and other snippets online but none of them were clear about where this so-called plastic wing nut was hiding. As you rightly describe, just a case of sticking your hand roughly behind the light and finding it

Saved me the hassle of driving to and spending a few quid for Halfords to do it, so thank you!

Thanks for putting this up, wouldn't have attempted this without it.

Sadly those nasty retainer clips did prove annoying. I managed to snap the passenger side rear couple of tabs off in taking the light unit out. Thankfully though what with the light units plasticy sticky outy bits that sit under/into the bodywork and the screws this doesn't seem to be a problem.

Lights look sooooooo much better with the same bulbs you used (a pure white light with blue tinges, nothing too halfords-esque). I will warn people that fiestas with the lesser headlights (black outline not the chrome surround and projector unit) require a t26 key (if i remeber right...may have been t21) to get the dipped beam bulbs out.

I even replaced the full beams in the end (just pop the retainer wires off and out it comes) went with philips X-treme Vision h1's...not sure theyre a lot brighter though the standard osram bulbs are clearly quite good as philips claim 100% more light...instead the beam just seems a bit more focussed on the "dead-ahead" area...oh well

Well I changed my off side dipped beam bulb without removing the headlight assembly. It was a doddle.

The Near Side bulb went today, so I'll be trying that one tomorrow.

NS headlight needs removing to change the bulb. Daft idea.

Not too sure on the fogs but the rear number plate bulbs are the easiest thing ever...

On the right hand side of each light unit is a small metal tab...press this down with a screwdriver and it wriggles out pretty easy...

then with the unit hanging free, you just turn the sidelight style bulb holder a quarter of a turn and it slides out of the side easy peasy...

don't touch the old or new bulbs directly as apparently this shortens their lifespan

to remove and replace bulbs just pull out and push in (no funky screw business here)

re-assemble and put the unit back in left side first and you have yourself some nice looking numberplate lights

Right, I changed my sidelights this afternoon and the lights came out pretty easy and i noticed that both the 'dreaded clips' appear to be damaged - not by me as the screws have marks on which makes me believe the headlights have been removed before and the headlights came out too easy LOL

Should I get hold of some new clips or will I be ok... The headlights are now secure with no movement.. but I am now worried?

It should make a loud bang when removed I think your clips are broken
